Red colors in the garden in autumn
There are plants whose foliage remains green all summer, but in autumn the foliage turns intensely red and is very decorative.
This time about shrubs. Of course, I won't mention all the plants. It's always worth devoting yourself to your own experiments and research.
First of all, it is worth highlighting plants that bear fruit:
Common Viburnum (lat. Viburnum opulus). Viburnums are fast-growing shrubs up to 3m high, growing in normal, humus-rich, also moist soils. Viburnums tolerate partial shade, but shade will affect the taste of the berries. Foliage dark green, bright wine-red in autumn.
Black chokeberry (lat. Aronia melanocarpa). Chokeberries are medium-fast-growing shrubs up to 2 m high, growing in humus-rich soils. Light-requiring, drought-resistant. Chokeberry fruits are used in food and medicine. Foliage green, turns fiery red in autumn. The view, of course, is fantastic.
Blueberries (lat. Vaccinium corymbosum). Blueberries grow in acidic, peaty soils of varying moisture. The height and taste characteristics of the berries differ from the blueberry variety.
I have noticed that the leaves of the bush blueberry varieties Sierra, BlueGold and Flamingo were particularly colorful. It should be noted that the foliage of the Flamingo variety is colorful already in the summer - with pink spots.
Thunberg's barberry (lat. Berberis thunbergii). Barberry grows well in dry, sunny places, on forest edges and slopes. Medium-growing shrubs, well-adapted to shaping. The fruits are edible.
Barberry variety Eretsca, shrub up to 1.5 m high, up to 0.6 m wide, conical crown. Foliage green, bright orange to red in autumn. The effect is really bright.
Barberry variety Starburst, shrub up to 1 m high, up to 1 m wide. The foliage is decorative also in summer - green with white-pink spots, turning purple in autumn.
Of course, I cannot fail to mention the winged saddle (lat. Euonymus alatus). The bushes grow in fertile, humus-containing, neutral or calcareous soils, are moisture-loving. Shade-tolerant. The height of the bush varies from variety to variety, but the basic species is also very decorative. The foliage is green, in autumn in very bright red tones. The branching of the bush is also decorative - with cork-like wings.
Panicled hydrangeas (lat. Hydrangea paniculata). Hydrangeas are beautifully flowering, relatively slow-growing. They like loose, nutrient-rich (with the addition of peat or leafy soil) and moist soil. Hydrangeas are sun-loving, but also tolerate partial shade. They bloom in the second half of summer, the flowering time depends on the variety.
Please note that not all hydrangeas have red leaves, so you should choose, for example, the Early Sensation hydrangea variety (synonym Bulk), a shrub up to 2m high. Foliage green, burgundy red in autumn.
Hydrangea variety Little Ouick Fire, a shrub up to 1.5m high, with impressive, white flowers, which later turn pink, then reddish. Foliage green, reddish-brown in autumn.
