When we think of growing nuts in our garden, the first thing that comes to mind is definitely hazelnuts. Not for nothing, because they grow in our forests.
But it is also possible to grow walnuts, and not just one species!

Walnut (Lat. Juglans) is a summer-green tree, very decorative with large, unusual leaves and an umbrella-shaped crown. Relatively fast-growing, prefers fertile, well-drained soil and a sunny location. It also tolerates urban growing conditions well.

Right here in our Zaļenieki arboretum (model garden) , the gray walnut (Lat. Juglans cinerea) has been growing for about 15 years. Last fall, we all feasted on its delicious nuts at the garden center, this fall you will be able to go to Zaļenieki to taste them yourself.
